“Without dignity, identity is erased.”
this is one of my all time favorite quotes from unbroken. it is a really deep meanings and it goes perfect with the book since the main character is a POW and that's all he has left to own while he is a prisoner. And through all of his hardships and beatings he always retained his dignity.
My grandpa was a POW for 3 and half years during WW2. He survived the Bataan Death March and the brutality of the Japanese guards. I can imagine dignity was a difficult thing to hold on to under those conditions.
