another place another time

ANOTHER PLACE, ANOTHER TIME
The date is October 26 1848, the place, somewhere in the Amazon.  Kyle is an Ex-Army Ranger and Floyd is what some people would call a treasure hunter. They were searching for a lost tomb with more gold than the average person could fathom.  They started in Manaus, Brazil on the edge of the Amazon. They stated from the since it was only a couple hundred miles from their final destination. They headed out with 10 men and two mules they weren’t planning on removing the gold until they have the place secured, that’s why they were heavily armed was to protect their gold. The first day the only managed 25 miles because of how thick the jungle was in this region. They made camp in the ruins of a temple long forgotten by the people who built it. Kyle would take the first watch even though no one was following them (yet) they didn’t want to take any chances. The next morning everybody well rested and having had a good meal they headed back out.
After about 15 miles they came to a river crossing, but the water was moving faster than normal. But Kyle insisted that it would be all good and there wasn’t anything to worry about. So they loaded everything onto a raft and started across. About half way across they noticed the raft was straining under the weight of the gear and men. They tried to hurry up and to get rid of weight they jumped off and held on to the raft. And right has the front of the raft hit the shore it split in two. The men trudged out of the cold river soaked from head to toe, at that time Floyd who stayed on the raft to steer said “that was exciting”, and at that time everyone just looked at him. They started to move again and after another 60 miles they stopped for the night.
When they woke up the next morning they saw that both of their mules were dead. This was a disaster because they didn’t want to have to carry all of the gear the last 20 miles but the had no choice. They headed out for the last time. After about 12 hours they came to where they thought the tomb was. But there was a problem, there was nothing around. Everyone started o yell at each other, everyone was exhausted and there was nothing for them. Kyle turned to everyone and yelled

memorable passages.

“Without dignity, identity is erased.”
this is one of my all time favorite quotes from unbroken. it is a really deep meanings and it goes perfect with the book since the main character is a POW and that's all he has left to own while he is a prisoner. And through all of his hardships and beatings he always retained his dignity.

newspaper

1) The first thing I choose was a picture of KU and Mizzou playing football. I choose this because I am a huge KU fan and always will be.
2) The second thing that I have chosen is the times for movies. I choose this because I remember every time my family and I went to a movie when I was younger I had to fin the times in the paper.
3) The third thing that I have selected was a Kansas city chiefs picture because I am a die hard chiefs fan from birth.
My family and I always go to at least 2 games a year and they are a lot of fun.
the fourth thing that I have picked is the TV listings. it cracked me up when I saw these because I would always look up what was going to be on that day when I was younger. and now with all of the technology the paper has become almost extinct.
5) finally the fifth thing is the title of an article that reminds me of one of my favorite books of all time. unbroken.

famous lines

1) I am an invisible man.
2)this line is from the novel invisible man, which was published in the year 1952 by the author Ralph Ellison who lived from 1913-1994. this author is also known for other works, including Juneteenth and three days before the shooting.
3)this book addresses the key issues of African Americans in the early twentieth century. it tells how the black man has no power and at this rate wont ever and be confined to oppression for the rest of their days if nothing is soon.
4)personally i would not read this because im not into black history books or other books from that genre because i feel like in a really boring history class.
5) The knife came down, missing him by inches, and he took off.
6)this line is from the novel Catch-22 , it was published in the year 1966 by the author Joseph Heller who lived from 1923-1999. this author is also know for other works such as God Knows and Good as Gold.
7)It uses a distinctive non-chronological third-person omniscient narration, describing events from different characters' points of view and out of sequence so that the time line develops along with the plot. and it follows a WWI captain who is the bombardier of a B-25.
8)i would read this book. because it it about war and they are the books that really excite me because im going into the military and i want to know what past mistakes where so i don't make them myself.

invisible man

I am an invisible man. I have not been seen for years and years. It all happened on that frightful Saturday long, long ago. When I was 15 I was walking around town looking for a job I must have gone to 10 different businesses in search for a job. But no one was hiring at the time so I walked home sulking. But when I got home my mother asked what was wrong so I told her. After I got done she told me this was how job hunting worked and said it’s not me it’s just how the world goes round. So the very next day I went out yet again in search of a job. As I walk around I cut in and out of alleyways all day and never made anything of it. But on this day I saw a man running out the back door of some apartments and thought nothing of it but 10 seconds later another man runs out with a gun and shoots him. I just stood there with fear and that’s when the other man turned to go back inside and saw me just standing there. So I did the only thing that came naturally to me I turned and ran as fast as I possibly could. The man started to shoot but it was too late I was already around the corner, and as I ran I was looking for a place to hide or a police officer. But there were no good places I could find and of course there is never a police officer when you need one so I kept on running. As I look back I didn’t see the man but then I saw him come barreling around a corner straight for me. I took another turn and saw an empty dumpster and got in and closed the lid fast. When I was in there I was just wishing I was invisible and a weird thing happened I turned invisible out of nowhere, that’s when the lid opened and a knife came down, missing me by inches, and I took off running. Never to be seen again.

writers as readers

1)      When I read I need a lot to be comfortable. First thing is I need a book I actually like because if I don’t like it then I won’t be able to focus. Then I need a comfortable chair/ bed with low lighting but enough to read in. I need very soft music playing to be able to read. And snacks don’t hurt either like chocolate and twizzlers.

2)      One of my favorite memories connected to reading is when I would read with and too my grandpa. We would read for hours at a time and any book that I wanted he would help me read it. He is the one who got me to like reading.

3)       My favorite book is hard to say I have two favorites. The first one is unbroken I like it because it takes place in WWII and the main character is an Olympic runner whose lane was shot down and he floats on a raft for more than a month and a half then gets picked up by the japs and then it tells his story of moving from POW camp to another all the time. My second book is No Easy Day it tells the story of an ex navy seal and what he went through on a daily basis and then he talks about the Osama bin laden assassination. It’s one of my favorites because that’s what I want to do is e in the military.

4)      The first book I remember reading was John Henrys Meadow. It stands out because it’s the book that I read the most with my grandpa before he got deployed to Afghanistan.

5)      When I finished reading Unbroken I was angry afterwards because it was done. I feel like they rushed the ending of the book, I was also sad because it ended well for Louis.

MAYA ANGELOU

Question2) I personally think I do have the ability to triumph over diversity because I do it every day with sports to push myself harder and harder to get better. I also am an A+ tutor and I help out with the special ED classes fourth block. It was a challenge at first but I have learned how to deal with them in a respectful manner and help them get a good education like everybody else.  They have taught me a lot to because they don’t care what other people think of them and they are always nice no matter what.

Question5) I could not live like Angelou did when she was young and didn’t talk for five years.  I am a very vocal person and have to be able to talk or I start to freak out. Another reason is I care a lot about what other people think of me and if I didn’t talk for that long people might start to think I’m weird because the don’t get to know me so they would assume that I was a creeper. I would grow more as a person if I could speak because I’ll be able to meet new people go new places and grow as a person because of it.

Question7) I can have “total recall” at times where I remember stuff no one else can. But that is usually with events and not information. I lack the ability to remember phone numbers, people’s names, and math. But I can remember most of the events in my life fairly clear. I feel it would be better to forget things because if you screw up that event won’t hold you back in the long run. I think too much and if I fail once then it stays in my head and I can’t forget it until I get it done right.

Question8) when she talks about the difference in truth and fact I think she means that if it’s a fact is always there it is proven and defined by our state of mind and if somebody disputes it then we can argue its legitimacy. Truth is what we believe is true and there is no facts to prove if it is right or wrong just what we want to be it is. I personally believe that they aren’t the same because one is proven and the other is more of an opinion.

dreams.

I never dream at night and when I do they are short and make no sense; however I do day dream on a regular basis. I dream about my future, what I could have done in certain situations to make them better, what if scenarios, and people that I either hate or like. When I do start to dream it’s like a whole new world that I can control to make whatever I want to happen, happen. But the thing I dream about the most is my future and what I need to do for it to turn out the way I want it to. In those dreams I map out every route to be what I want and to do what I want, and it goes like this. As soon as im out of high school I’m going to MSU for college and getting it paid for by the US army. I will graduate college as a sergeant server 5-6 years in the army. Then I will apply for ranger school and become and army ranger then serve 15-20 more years there. I have mapped out every rout to take and double checked over and over with the head of ROTC over at MSU. I have even gotten help from coronel Murphy on which way I should go. I have mapped out my future to the T. and who said that day dreaming is bad it is where I get most of my ideas and inspiration.

scared

Closing my eyes became a fear. I was so scared do fall asleep because as soon as tomorrow came it would be my last day on this earth. They say your life flashes before your eyes right before you die, well let’s hope that doesn’t happen because all I will see is my mistakes and screw ups. I should never have gone down that alley, why did it have to be me. Why in this day in age is there even a mob I thought there were only gangs nowadays. Regardless my short life will come to an end. And the worst part is I’m spending my last night on earth in a trunk. At least they could have the decency to give me a good meal but no I’m in a car trunk awaiting my death. I just need to sleep at least I can get some good sleep in before the end. Then the airplane doors open. As I awake from a drug induced sleep to see us miles up in the sky, they signal to me to jump, and as I creep up on the opening of the plane and glance down and am struck with a sense of peace. Then I jump and float down as I make peace with god and everyone I have ever cared about.

Schools of fish swim back and fourth
Feels like paradise

One chilly winter
Snow covers the ground for miles
Orange shines through the snow

Best Fourth Ever

3 years ago on the fourth of July my family and I were at my aunt and uncles house to celebrate. Then once it started to get dark we decided to start shooting off fireworks. So we started with bottle rockets and those were going well but it didn’t satisfy us so we moved on. So we got some bigger rockets to shoot off and they were good and all but they still weren’t big enough. So we found a couple of mortar shells and thought that was going to be the kind of bang that we were looking for. But once we got going the mortars were kind of wimpy.
So we ran home to see if there was anything that could make the night any better. And then we saw it, a huge mortar shell from when my dad was in college. It’s equal to a stick of dynamite and doesn’t emit any sparks or colors it’s just an explosion. But the problem is we couldn’t find a tube big enough to shoot it out of. So after a lot of looking we found a leaf blower tube that was only an inch or two too big and thought it would still work.
So when we get back to my aunts and uncles place we realized we needed something to hold the tube down so my uncle comes back with a cinder block. So we place the tube in the cinder block and grab the mortar and place it down inside of the tube and make sure people are behind something just in case. So then we light it and just jogged back to cover. That’s when we saw the flames shooting out of the tube which meant that the mortar flipped upside down somehow. So at that point we just start to book it, and then a huge bang followed by the sound of breaking glass.
After the shock of the size of the explosion had passed there was a lot of damage caused by our stupidity. In all we broke 8 windows on my aunt and uncles house, two back widows of my cousins cars, cinder block was demolished and mail box dinted in and has holes in it. But in all it was one of the most memorable fourth of Julys yet.
